The New Pornographers and Bell and Sebastian at the 9:30 Club in D.C., 3/5/06

I’ll try to put the pieces together in my head of what happened at the New Pornographers/Belle and Sebastian concert on Sunday and write up a review tomorrow. In hindsight, I really wish I would of brought along a notepad to jot down the set lists. Also, I am apparently mentally Hepplarded when it comes to photography. A neon blue spotlight was basically the only light source in the entire club -- I kept snapping away pictures with my spankin’ new Canon Power Shot A520 digital camera and they just kept turning out like shit. Some heavily intoxicated concert-goer standing next to me finally leaned over towards the end of the show and said, “Dude, man – you gotta shut off your God damn flash if you want your pictures to come out.”

He was wise. Completely dismantled...but very wise. The experience was good practice for when I’m back at the 9:30 Club this Friday for The Pogues. With the poor lighting, I’ll have to fight my way to the front row to get a decent pic. That means I should be able to get some choice close-ups of Shane McGowan’s tooth.
